Christoph Pieper is University Lecturer of Latin at Leiden University (Institute of the Arts in Society, LUCAS). His research interests include Republican oratory and its place in society; the reception of Cicero between antiquity and the Renaissance, and humanistic literature and culture.

Among his recent the publications are an edited volume (with Dennis Pausch) on the scholia to Cicero’s speeches (The Scholia on Cicero’s Speeches. Contexts and Perspectives. Leiden/Boston 2023); an article on Catiline as orator (“Catilina in senatu obmutuit? Responses to Cicero’s first Catilinarian speech”. In: P. Geitner – D. Pausch – C. Schwameis – R.C. Wierzcholowski (eds.), Ciceronian Invectives. Emotions, Reactions and Performance. Tübingen 2024, 205-238) and (together with Lidewij van Gils, Olga Tellegen-Couperus and Rogier van der Wal) an introduction to cicero’s life and works (Cicero. Elementair Deeltje 57. Amsterdam 2018).
