Sophie van der Pot
Mijn naam is Sophie van der Pot en ik ben een twintigjarige masterstudent Classics and Ancient Civilizations (research) aan de Universiteit Leiden. Onlangs heb ik mijn bachelor Griekse en Latijnse taal en cultuur afgerond, waarin mijn interesse voor de receptie van klassieke literatuur en voor het toegankelijk maken van de antieke wereld voor een breder publiek is ontstaan. Naast mijn studie heb ik ervaring opgedaan als docent Latijn en Grieks, als student-assistent en als stagiair educatie bij het Rijksmuseum van Oudheden in Leiden.
Als student-assistent binnen het Europa Ciceroniana-project heb ik bijgedragen aan het Nederlandstalige commentaar op Cicero’s Pro Archia. Zo heb ik meegewerkt aan het schrijven van het commentaar en was ik verantwoordelijk voor het invoeren van het voltooide commentaar op de website van het project. Daarnaast was ik betrokken bij de voorbereiding van en nam ik deel aan twee internationale workshops, waar ik de gelegenheid kreeg om ideeën uit te wisselen met classici uit verschillende Europese landen. Het werken aan Pro Archia heeft mijn interesse in Cicero verder verdiept en mij laten zien op welke manieren zijn werken nog altijd kunnen worden bestudeerd, geïnterpreteerd en gedeeld met nieuwe generaties lezers. Met mijn bijdrage aan Europa Ciceroniana hoop ik eraan bij te dragen dat Cicero’s werk toegankelijk en relevant blijft voor zowel scholieren als een breder publiek.

My name is Sophie van der Pot and I am a twenty-year-old classicist from the Netherlands, currently pursuing a Research Master’s degree in Classics at Leiden University. I recently completed my bachelor’s degree in Greek and Latin Language and Culture, during which I developed a particular interest in the reception of classical literature and in making the ancient world accessible to a wider audience. Alongside my studies, I have gained experience as a teacher of Latin and Greek, as a student assistant, and as an intern in museum education at the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden in Leiden.
As a student-assistant for the Europa Ciceroniana project, I have contributed to the Dutch commentary on Cicero’s Pro Archia, both by co-writing the commentary and by entering the completed commentary into the project’s website. I have also been involved in the preparation of, and participated in, two international workshops, where I had the opportunity to exchange ideas with fellow classicists from across Europe. Working on Pro Archia has strengthened my interest in Cicero and in the ways in which his works can continue to be studied, interpreted, and shared with new generations of readers. Through Europa Ciceroniana, I hope to contribute to keeping Cicero’s work accessible and relevant to both students and a wider audience.
