Elvira Beernink

My name is Elvira Beernink.
After studying Greek and Latin Language and Culture at the University of Groningen, I started working in education and now, some 20 years later, I haven't regretted this choice for a moment.
I hope to transfer my enthusiasm for the Roman authors (and especially Virgil, Ovid and Cicero) and the Latin language system to my students. Connecting with students and experiencing how their perceptions relate to those of the ancient Romans is one of the most enjoyable aspects of my work.
I am also interested in the Roman visual arts and architecture, which is why I enjoy accompanying school excursions to Rome and Trier. Also on vacations in southern France and Italy I look for remains of the ancient Romans.
In the Netherlands, the core goal of education in LTC is to have students reflect on language, culture and literature and thus create intercultural awareness. In my opinion, this Cicero project can make an important contribution to this.
I work as a Classical Languages and Culture teacher at Het Stedelijk Kottenpark in Enschede.
