CALL FOR THEATRE

(Turin, 27 September 2025)

 

The Europa Ciceroniana project (https://europa-ciceroniana.eu/it) is organising an event to be held in Turin, on 27 September 2025, for which it is asking any interested parties to present a project on actio in the context of Latin oratory, with a specific focus on Ciceronian production and the Pro Archia.

In the small setting of a theatre hall in Palazzo Nuovo (University of Turin), works of various kinds will be presented and performed, but with the common feature of using instruments and artistic forms linked to the world of entertainment (e.g. re-enactments, graphic novels, videos, music, theatre scenes, monologues, dialogues, comics, posters, etc.). These works may also be realised by upper secondary school classes under the supervision of the respective teachers. It will be possible to participate either in person (at one’s own expense, except for members of the Europa Ciceroniana project) or by submitting material that can be shared on a stage or a screen; in any case, each performance should generally last between 10 to 15 minutes, but exceptions can be discussed.

This will be an opportunity to share innovative methodological approaches in the field of Latin language and literature teaching, with a view to fruitful interchange between school and universities realities of different origins. Please state your intention to participate to alberto.crotto@unito.it by July 2025. If possible, include a description of the performance. The scientific members of the Europa Ciceroniana will contact you to discuss how to best facilitate your project. The final deadline for the project will be in September 2025, before the start of the Turin workshop.

Reimbursement of participation fees is reserved for members of the Europa Ciceroniana project.
