I teach Classical Languages at a secondary school in The Netherlands, where I like to illuminate the magic of grammar, as well as the magic of being able to read texts that originated in cultures and periods of time far removed from our own. Despite this distance in both place and time, we can see universal experiences and emotions portrayed in the classical stories that have come down to us, and this enables us to relate to the experiences of other people.
Secondly, I think it’s great to share with my students the many forms of creative reception of the culture of Classical Antiquity that keep on appearing in books, movies, and art works. Classical Antiquity is alive in the world around us.
By taking part in the present project, I hope to contribute to making the text by Cicero accessible and enjoyable to the students who will study this text for their exams.
