dr. Janja Zmavc

Dr. Janja Žmavc is an associate professor of linguistics and a senior research fellow at the Educational Research Institute and the University of Primorska. Her research focuses on the role and significance of languages in education and rhetorical pedagogy, both historically and in contemporary contexts. Her areas of expertise include the history of rhetoric, rhetorical theory and practice, argumentation and theories of argumentation, linguistic pragmatics, and text linguistics of classical and modern languages, as well as the didactics of classical languages and rhetoric. She is a co-author of the only Slovenian textbook for teaching rhetoric in primary schools, in addition to a university textbook for speech exercises. Her recent publications include a study on a vertical framework for teaching oral performance in primary school (2024); a paper on systematic teaching of oral performance as a starting point for interdisciplinary integration and developing multilingual skills (2024); an analysis on rhetoric, oracy and citizenship (2022); and an article on teaching rhetoric in primary school, focusing on modernization of society with classical techniques and practices (2021).
